Ready Report: Public Comment Request, Upcoming Events & More…

I hope you and your family are doing well. I wanted to share some upcoming events, an opportunity to make your voice heard to the state government on the implementation of major environmental and energy related regulations and a news appearance I made regarding juvenile crime on Fox 45.

First, I wanted to send one last reminder about my annual Fall Family Fundraiser at Island Green just outside Westminster – this coming Tuesday, October 8th from 5:30-7:30 PM. For more information, and to buy tickets – or make a contribution, click here. This is the last fundraiser I’m holding for the year and it’s an important part of having the resources needed to continue getting our conservative message out now and be ready for our next election.

We’ll be talking about the November election, rallying to support our candidates, discussing the outlook for the 2025 Legislative Session but most of all having fun together. Hope you can make it Tuesday!

ALERT – Public Comment Period Open on “Climate Solutions Now” Act

The Maryland Department of the Environment has begun the implementation of the Climate

Solutions Now Act, which passed in 2022 (over my no vote).

This Act requires all commercial and multifamily residential buildings with a gross floor area

of 35,000 square feet or more to meet net-zero direct emissions by 2040.

I did not support this legislation when it came before the General Assembly. Putting aside the irrational climate alarmism that is not based on actual science, it was ultimately designed to ban the use of natural gas to heat buildings, increasing consumer’s costs. Given the small size of our state, this radical move will make no impact on even the East Coast of the United States’ climate much less the world. We now see the fruit

I am gravely concerned this will put even more burdens on commercial and residential

business owners and will also be borne by their commercial and residential tenants. The bill

will also increase costs to state and local governments who must also meet the energy

standards under this bill, ultimately increasing the costs to taxpayers. In this economy, this

is the last thing that Marylanders need.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has put out proposed regulations to

implement this legislation. You are allowed to make comments as a citizen and taxpayer. The public comment period for these regulations is open through October 9. Click here for more information.

Ready in the Press: FOX 45 Coverage of Juvenile Crime

Yesterday I appeared on a lengthy Fox 45 television piece about the surge of juvenile crime. My portion in the piece starts at the 14:07 mark but the entire piece is very instructive on the crisis we are facing in juvenile crime and its caused in large part by lax enforcement by the Department of Juvenile Services and it’s awful Secretary – Vince Schiraldi, who I voted against on his nomination. Here’s the link to the FOX 45 story – https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/new-djs-policies-introduced-following-attack-on-senior-gop-lawmakers-question-timing.

Also, our joint Maryland Senate and House Republican Caucus has called for Secretary Schiraldi to resign, including sending a letter to Governor Moore calling on him to make a change. Here is coverage of that effort – https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/md-house-and-senate-republicans-send-letter-to-moore-calling-on-removal-of-djs-secretary.
