Ready Report: MPRP Update, Budget “Compromise”, & More…

The 12th week of the 2025 Legislative Session has concluded. There is just one full week left. Then the General Assembly will adjourn Sine Die at midnight on Monday, April 7th. Any bill that does pass by that time will not be worked on until the 2026 Legislative Session. You can read more about what happened this week in Annapolis below.

MPRP Update – Good News & Fox 45 Town Hall

Throughout the 2025 Legislative Session, there have been many issues getting a lot of attention in Annapolis like the budget, tax increases, and more. However, the Carroll County Delegation has continued to monitor MPRP developments and look for legislative ways to stop it from happening.

Earlier this week, the Maryland Public Service Commission announced that their case file included an incomplete form, deeming the MPRP application as incomplete. This means that PSEG will need to submit additional materials to bring the application into compliance, delaying the start of the formal review process and giving more time to advocates to prepare and organize.

The fight is not over, and I recommend going to www.stopmprp.com to get involved.

Additionally, on Wednesday, I participated in Fox 45’s Town Hall on Maryland’s Energy Crisis, where I discussed some of the short-sighted and failed policies that lead us to the MPRP project. You can watch the full town hall by clicking here.

Maryland Democrats Present Budget “Compromise”

Earlier this week, the Maryland House of Delegates passed their version of the FY26 state budget. Their “compromise” package carries a tax burden of over $1 Billion. Although they say that their “compromise” includes some cuts, they really are just moving money around or adding less to the sate’s Rainy-Day Fund than normal. The Senate will be working on the budget for the next several days in Annapolis and will hopefully dial back some of the tax and fee increases, which the entire Joint House and Senate Republican Caucus strongly oppose.

Veterans Independence Project in Westminster Begins Remodel

I had a fun time Friday taking part in Carroll County Veterans Independence Project’s “Wall Breaking” event as they expand the interior of their facility in Carroll Street in Westminster to include shower, kitchen and laundry facilities to support veterans looking to get back and stay on their feet in Carroll County. Our delegation in the previous term was able to secure a state capital grant that helped to fund this expansion. Former Delegates Susan Krebs and Carroll County State’s Attorney Haven Shoemaker were on hand to participate as well. Helping our veterans in any way possible should always be a top priority – great job CCVIP!
