Ready Report: Happy Labor Day, MPRP Meeting Recap & More…

As we head into Labor Day weekend, I hope you and your family have a fun and relaxing final break before we get all the way into the Fall and back-to-school season. August has been very busy in our community for a number of reasons – here’s some of the latest things that have been going on:

MPRP Public Meeting Recap

Last week, the Carroll County Delegation (including both District 5 and 42C) and the Carroll County Commissioners hosted over 800 residents at the Ag Center in Westminster. This meeting and listening session was a productive opportunity for people to be heard, and I can tell you we heard you loud and clear.

All five Carroll County Commissioners and all six members of the Carroll County Delegation (me, Delegates Bouchat, Rose & Tomlinson, Senator West & Delegate Stonkooppose the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project.

We are working on a Carroll Delegation letter to the Maryland Public Service Commission opposing MPRP as well as efforts to get more help from statewide officials including Governor Moore to take a stand and work to turn this back. At the very least we need to slow the process down and go back to the drawing board.

Bottom line #1 – Carroll, Frederick & Northern Baltimore Counties should NOT be an extension cord for Northern Virginia…Bottom line #2 – Maryland is suffering from short-sighted and ideological decisions about energy production that have left us putting all our eggs in wind and solar baskets while refusing to refurbish and replace older power plants with natural gas, nuclear and even clean coal. We have got to get a comprehensive energy policy in Maryland that recognizes the reality that we are importing 40% of our electricity. It’s unsustainable obviously. More on this as we head further into the Fall.

Ready, Rose and Tomlinson Urge Congress to Pass SAVE Act

Earlier this week, Delegates Rose, Tomlinson and myself signed a petition calling for congress to immediately pass the SAVE Act. The SAVE Act seeks to ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in U.S. elections by requiring states to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote.
